Moscow-born Elena Bashkirova comes from a musical family. She studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the master class of her father, the noted pianist and music teacher Dmitri Bashkirov. She is a frequent guest with many major international orchestras, collaborating with such illustrious conductors as Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, and Christoph von Dohnányi. In addition to the Classical and Romantic repertoire, Elena Bashkirova's interests also include 20th-century music, and she has performed several world premieres. Chamber music and lieder accompaniment also form an important part of her work. In 1998 Elena Bashkirova founded the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival (JCMF), which takes place annually in September. She appears regularly with the JCMF Ensemble at prestigious international music festivals and in the musical centers of Europe, the US, and South America.
In addition to an Asian tour which takes Elena Bashkirova to Beijing and Taipei, further highlights of the 2008/09 season include her appearance with the Orchestre de Paris and her recitals with Daniel Barenboim in Salzburg, Genova, Turino and Bologna.
