Malaysian pianist Vincent Ong has quickly emerged as one of the most visible and exciting young pianists of his generation.

He gained international recognition at the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 2025, where he became the first Malaysian pianist to reach the final round and was awarded a laureate prize.  His performances drew significant international attention and marked an important milestone for Malaysian classical music on the global stage.  In 2024, he was awarded First Prize at the 19th International Robert Schumann International Piano Competition.

Born in Penang, Malaysia, in 2001, Vincent began playing the piano at the age of four. He studied with the Malaysian pianist and composer Ng Chong Lim before continuing his musical education with Prof. Eldar Nebolsin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.

Following the Chopin Competition, Vincent’s concert appearances in Asia have been met with exceptional public interest, with recitals selling out within a short time. Recent highlights include performances at the Seoul Arts Center, Taipei National Concert Hall, and Hamarikyu Hall Tokyo. In 2025, he was also invited to perform at the Nohant Festival Chopin in France.

Vincent’s repertoire spans from Bach and Chopin to Ligeti. His playing is characterized by a distinctive artistic voice that combines poetic imagination with structural clarity. His musicianship is further shaped by his interest in composition, improvisation, and piano technique. He has worked with musicians including Elisabeth Leonskaja, Elisso Virsaladze, Natalia Trull, Marc Laforêt, Piotr Anderszewski, and Kirill Gerstein.

He is a scholarship recipient of the Lucia-Loeser Foundation and Fondation Clavarte, and an active participant of the Lieven International Piano Foundation in Vienna.
